Saugatuck Yacht Club Sailing Program was one of the few sailing programs to successfully navigate COVID-19 in 2020 and we are excited to provide a safe and fun environment for our sailors again in 2022!  COVID-19 has presented many challenges for youth sailing, therefore SYCSP will continue to implement its safety protocols this summer.  Creating a safe environment for our sailors and SYCSP Instructors remains our top priority and with the help of our SYSCP families, we can ensure another wonderful summer of sailing.  Our motto for 2022 will again be:  Stay Small, Stay Safe.

SYCSP will be implementing the following safety guidelines for 2021:

  • Small class sizes:
    • Class sizes will be capped at 30.
    • (3) small groups of 8 to 10 with 2 dedicated SYCSP Instructors per group.  This allows our instructors to spread out for the Chalk Talks in separate, outside areas.
    • Sailors will remain with their group for the entire week.

  • Daily temperature checks prior to the start of class.

  • Face covering required.  We recommend a buff for safety in and around the water.

  • Frequent sanitizing of boats and Sailing Pavilion (high traffic surfaces, bathrooms) between classes.

  • Hand sanitizing stations throughout Sailing Pavilion.

  • Opti sailors will be sailing single handed unless sailing with a family member.

  • Cubbies:  each sailor will be assigned their own cubby for the duration of the session to store their personal belongings each day.

  • Sailors will be required to bring the following each day:
    • Coast Guard Approved Life Vest
    • Water bottle (water fountains will only be in use to refill water bottles)
    • Sunscreen
    • Towel

  • Limited access to Sailing Pavilion and Instructional Areas
    • Only sailors and SYCSP Instructors will be allowed in the Sailing Pavilion or outdoor instructional areas.  This includes, rigging areas and launching docks.

  • Drop off/Pick up:
    • All sailors should be dropped off in the parking lot where they will be screened before entering the pavilion.
    • Sailors will be picked up in the same location.
