2021 REGISTRATION

IMPORTANT!  Due to COVID-19 restrictions the minimum age for registering for sailing is 7 years old. SYCSP will continue to focus on single handed sailing for 2021 unless there are siblings that are able to sail together. We will also be capping our classes so that we can teach kids safely in groups of 8. If you wish to add your student to the waitlist, you will be notified when the class becomes available.

Beginners Class

This class is intended for kids who are beginner to intermediate sailors.

Each day begins with an on shore lesson covering topics such as safety, rigging, boat handling, and knots. Then, weather permitting, students will have the opportunity to sail Club Optimist Prams around the Kalamazoo Harbor to practice what they've learned.

This class is held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday from 9am to 12pm*
.

* Beginner morning class schedule varies for the weeks when Advanced afternoon students race in WMYSA regattas. During these weeks, classes are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday from 9am to 12pm. Please refer to the Calendar page.

Toward the end of the season we traditionally hold Fun Week. No new instruction will be taught during this time. Only children who took lessons at some point during the summer can sign up for Fun Week.

Wednesday is race day at SYC.  Harbor start for races is 1:00 PM.  All sailors are encouraged to participate.  Beginners will get instructor approval to race once they are at the proper skill level.

Advanced Class
The advanced class is intended for kids with advanced sailing abilities. The student must have approval from sailing instructors to participate in this class. The advanced class will also participate in 4 regattas through the summer, organized by the West Michigan Youth Sailing Association.

The class begins with a brief lesson covering specific topics such as tacking, spinnakers, and race skills. Students will sail Club 420's, Optimist Prams, and Lasers.

This class is held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTION

SYCSP WELCOMES BACK CAPPY CAPPER!

This summer, Cappy Capper will join the sailing staff for 6 weeks. Cappy will provide our program with instruction and  training   for the advanced sailors to further expand their racing skills. This is an amazing opportunity for us to have instruction by one of the US Sailing's top trainers, and can benefit kids beginning to race and kids who have been racing for years.
